How hard is the landing in a tandem skydive?
The landing in a tandem skydive is much softer than most participants expect before the experience. The tandem pilot takes full control of the parachute and manages the entire procedure, so your role is simply to follow the easy instructions regarding leg position.
Usually, the landing feels like a short slide on a grassy surface or like sitting down gently on softer ground. The instructor will warn you in advance to lift your legs, allowing him to touch down first while you follow smoothly without major jolts. In calm weather, the landing is almost unnoticeable and very similar to stepping off a trampoline.
If the weather conditions are slightly more variable, the landing may be a bit firmer, but even then, the instructor ensures it remains safe and under control. The parachute equipment is designed to make the landing controlled, safe, and without unnecessary risk for the participant.
In short, the landing in a tandem skydive is safe, usually very soft, and a pleasant conclusion to the entire adventure, often described by participants as surprisingly easy.
