What is tandem skydiving?
A tandem skydive is the easiest way to experience skydiving for the first time. The participant is securely attached to an experienced instructor who guides the entire jump from exit to landing, while you fully surrender to the adrenaline experience.
Are there any weight, height, and age restrictions?
There are certain conditions for tandem skydiving to ensure safety. The participant’s weight is limited to around 95–100 kg, though this may vary between locations due to different equipment. The minimum height is set between 135 and 140 cm, as the harness must fit the body properly. There is no specific maximum height, since taller stature usually implies higher weight, which is the main factor. The minimum age is sometimes set at 16 years, while at some locations there is no such limit, allowing younger participants with parental consent.
What about health conditions?
No special physical fitness is required for tandem skydiving, but good general health is important. The jump is not recommended for people with serious heart problems, severe spinal injuries, or during pregnancy. Participation under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not allowed.
Can I eat and drink before skydiving?
A light meal and enough water are recommended before skydiving. Avoid greasy food, carbonated drinks, and alcohol. This way you’ll keep your energy, feel comfortable, and enjoy a safe and pleasant experience.
What happens in case of bad weather?
Tandem skydives are carried out only in suitable weather conditions, as safety comes first. If there is strong wind, rain, or poor visibility, the jump is postponed to another date. Participants are always informed in advance, and rescheduling does not involve any additional costs. This ensures that your skydive will only take place under optimal conditions, making the experience safe and enjoyable.
How long does the entire skydiving experience last?
The entire tandem skydiving experience usually lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. This time includes check-in, preparation, the plane ride, freefall, and landing, so it is recommended to set aside enough time for a relaxed adventure.
How does your skydive work?
A tandem skydive takes place in several steps: first preparation and ground instructions, then a 15–30 minute plane ride, followed by freefall lasting 30 to 60 seconds, or up to 90 seconds from 6,000 meters. After the parachute opens, a few minutes of calm gliding with views await you, ending with a safe landing that completes the adrenaline-filled experience.
Can I wear glasses during a tandem skydive?
Glasses are not an obstacle during a tandem skydive. You will receive special goggles that fit over prescription glasses or contact lenses, ensuring you can see clearly throughout the jump and enjoy the view without worry.
What is the difference between external and handheld camera?
The external camera records the jump from different angles and shows a wider view of the action, while the handheld camera mainly captures your face and genuine reactions. With both options, you can also order photos or a combination of both, ensuring a complete memory of the experience.
Can I use my own camera or GoPro during the jump?
For tandem skydives, the use of your own camera or GoPro device is not allowed for safety reasons. Instead, professional recording options are available, provided by instructors or additional cameramen.
How safe is a tandem skydiving jump?
Tandem skydiving is designed with maximum focus on safety. The participant is securely attached to an experienced instructor at all times, while the equipment includes a main and reserve parachute as well as an AAD device for automatic activation. Safety is ensured through regular equipment checks, trained instructors, and jumps performed only in suitable weather conditions.
Can a passenger fall out of the tandem during a skydive?
A passenger in a tandem skydive cannot fall out of the tandem or harness system. The participant is secured to the instructor at multiple points with certified safety harnesses, and all fastening systems are checked and designed to ensure complete safety throughout the jump.
How long does freefall last and what is the speed during the jump?
Freefall in a tandem skydive lasts between 30 and 90 seconds, depending on the altitude from which you jump. From 3,000 meters, it lasts about half a minute; from 4,000 meters, almost a full minute; and from special jumps at 6,000 meters, around a minute and a half. The falling speed is about 200 km/h, or approximately 50 meters per second, but the sensation feels more like floating than falling.
How hard is the landing in a tandem skydive?
Most participants describe the landing as easy and soft. The instructor ensures the correct body position and takes full control of the parachute, so the sensation is similar to a slow slide onto the ground. It is a safe and relaxed conclusion to the adrenaline-filled experience.
